The Town of Milnet

Milnet was located 7 miles north of Capreol.

The mill had existed since the early 1900s. Logging camps were located further up river where they would harvest the trees and let the river carry them down to Milnet. There was a Planar Mill for the finished product.

Milnet had its own small yard engine and the lumber was loaded onto CNR boxcars that were then transferred onto the mainline for shipment by freight train.

Disaster struck the community when the Depression came with massive unemployment. The saw mill mysteriously burned down in 1933 with most everyone going on relief - usually between $10 and $15 a month. In 1934, the Planar Mill also burned. By 1940, the town was empty with only the company houses left standing.
